Features of yachting in Slovenia

Slovenia ("The sunny side of the Alps" as the Slovenes called it) is a small country nestled in the very center of Europe. It attracts tourists from all over the world with an abundance of ancient churches, castles, Gothic palaces, modern art nouveau buildings and, of course, views of the snow-capped mountains. "A green slice of Europe", "Europe in miniature" - and although these names sound like flashy headlines of tourist brochures, they are all true. Arriving here, you can enjoy the picturesque landscapes and soak up the warm sun on the shores of the Adriatic Sea.

Little Slovenia is a real gift for a traveler interested in the culture and history of new places. Walking through the historical center of any town, you seem to find yourself in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, amazingly preserved to this day. Lost among dense vegetation on the banks of rivers and lakes, ancient castles and lively squares, Catholic cathedrals and houses with red tiled roofs. And the overall picture is complemented by the beauty of the Adriatic and magnificent lakes with thermal springs.

Despite the small length of the coastline (47 km), yacht charter in Slovenia is well developed, because this diverse southern European country borders on neighboring Italy and Croatia, where you can go on an educational and memorable trip.

Sights

There are a lot of natural and man-made attractions in Slovenia, despite the small size of the country. Their density is highest in the west. You should start exploring Slovenia from Ljubljana - the old city castle of the 12th century offers excursions, and you can have fun in the numerous establishments scattered along the waterfront.

Ljubljana old townLjubljana old town

The old town of the Slovenian capital, surrounded on one side by the Ljubljanica River and on the other by a hill with the Ljubljana Castle at the top, is an ideal place for leisurely walks.

Here you can visit the 15th century town hall, the late 19th century opera house, the 18th century St. Nicholas Cathedral, the 17th century Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the Ursuline Church of the Holy Trinity and the Ljubljana skyscraper.

In addition, there are many other attractions in the Old Town - squares, bridges and parks, which are also worth visiting.

Julian Alps

This mountain range got its name in honor of Gaius Julius Caesar, who once founded the Roman province in the Friuli region.

Its height reaches 2864 m at the highest point (Triglav town), glaciers are scattered throughout the territory. Here is one of the deepest caves in the world (Cheki-2).

Tourist centers of the region: Bled, Kranjska Gora, Bohinj, Rateche, Sella Nevea and Tarvisio.

Lake Bled

One of the most picturesque places not only in Slovenia, but throughout Europe. Lake Bled is located in the northern part of the country on the territory of the Triglav National Reserve. This amazing natural body of water in sky blue is nestled among lush coniferous forests. This is the most recognizable place in the country - its image is used in many advertising brochures.

The visiting card of the lake is a small island located in the center of the reservoir. The church of the Assumption of the Theotokos is comfortably settled on it - this is a small chapel with a bell. According to legend, the church was founded here at the request of an inconsolable widow, whose husband was brutally murdered by bandits. This sad story reached the pontiff and he ordered to cast the bell, which was then installed on the chapel. Now this bell fulfills innermost desires - as soon as you hear its sound, you need to make them right there.

Postojna and Škocjan caves

There is an amazing place in Slovenia where for thousands of years the river has carved its way through the stones, forming a whole underground world with hundreds of caves and labyrinths. Shkotsian Caves are a natural miracle formed in a limestone massif. These caves have been known since the early 19th century.

The village that gave the name to the caves is perched on a high cliff. Not far from it, two holes open, which were once a single part - over time, a jumper formed between them. Further, for more than 2 kilometers, the canyon stretches, falling into the Dead Lake. Everything in the caves looks like in a fairy tale. The walls and ceilings are covered with stalagmites and stalactites, which give the impression of touching something unearthly.

The Postojna Cave, the most visited in Europe, is also world famous. Here, magnificent underground halls have been formed, in which the Christmas performance is held annually. This is the richest cave in the world in terms of a variety of living creatures (it is home to over 150 species of fauna), here you can learn a lot about the life of amazing underground animals.

Fonda Fish Farm

The fish farm, located in Piran Bay, was established to raise fish and mussels in natural conditions. Thanks to its convenient location, seafood from the farm can be delivered anywhere in Slovenia, southern Austria and northern Italy in just a few hours.

While small fish can hide among nets and floating systems for raising mussels, large fish can feed and spawn here. Like any man-made underwater reef or sunken ship, the Foundation Fish Farm has become the focus of new life over time. The diversity of marine life is much higher here than in other parts of the Adriatic Sea.

Stud farm

Not far from the capital there is a world-famous stud farm (founded in the 16th century) in Lipica. From the very beginning, a unique breed of horses was created here and continues to improve. At birth, a small foal is born with a dark color. But throughout life, the color of the coat changes, becoming snow-white as a result.

In addition to horses, there is also a workshop for the production of carriages, carts and carts. Local craftsmen create real masterpieces. During the visit, those who wish can get acquainted with the history of the unique breed of horses and ride horses.
